Evaluation of my Continuity Sequence.
Mise-en-scene:
When filming our continuity sequence we didn't use one of the planned shots, as we felt it didn't add anything to the story, and it didn't fit in with the sequence very well.
The actresses, which were Livvy, Fay and Me, wore different costumes. Me and Livvy wore different casual clothing, whereas Fay's costume was that of a Japanese school uniform so she could be in her character, which was a psycho killer.
In our sequence we used special effects make-up to create the realistic cuts, blood and stab wounds. We used wax, fake blood and body paint. We also used everyday make-up with Fay's costume to make her eyes look bigger and more threatening. In editing we decided to add a backing track as there was no dialogue to stop the audience getting board and to keep them intrigued. The track is called 'Play with me' and we found it on the site called incompetech, which is a non-copyright music track site. For the effective scream sound, we got that off a site called freesound as the original scream we recorded sounded wrong and not good enough for the effect we wanted.
Lighting:
The lighting changed depending on what scene it was. The little room where most of the serious action was happening, we filmed with a slightly darker lighting, and in the editing we decided to make it even darker to give it a creepy feeling the those scenes. The shots in the corridor came out too bright as we forgot to adjust the IOS level on the camera. Therefor if we were to film this again we would check and change the IOS level so that each scene is shot with the correct lighting.
High and Low angles:
In our film we used a Low angle when I picked up the dropped knife and at the end when I fell to the floor after being stabbed in the stomach area. However we didn't use any High angle shots as we couldn't find a place for them in our sequence. If we were to film our sequence again, we would a more variety of different angles.
Different Shot Distance:
For our sequence we used a verity of different shot distances to add to the tension and story of the film. We used several wide shots to show the bigger action and to show the audience clearly what was happening within the scene in the sequence. We used close up's and mid shots to create tension and to make the audience intrigued by the action withing the scene. We also used these shots to give our sequence a creepy feeling and to show close up action to the important parts of the sequence.
Any camera movement:
In our sequence we only used one camera movement. At the very end of our sequence, which is the scene where I get stabbed by Fay, we used a handheld tracking shot which followed my movements as I fell to the ground, to my death.
Fades and Dissolves:
When we edited our sequence we chose to used the dissolve effect when I was on the phone next to the dead body, to make the scene shorter and to show that time had passed from the beginning to the end of the conversation I had on the phone. We also used a wipe to the right effect to show a meanwhile shot, which showed that when Fay stabbed Livvy, I was walking down the corridor and i heard Livvy scream. Finally Also in the scene where I return to Livvy's body and then Fay comes up behind me we put a fade in so the two scenes didn't jump from one to another and to make it smother and more clean viewing for the audience. at the end of the sequence we ended with Fay walking off after killing me and the screen fading to black. This was supposed to fade to the end credits but we didn't have enough time to add them in, so we just had it fading to black with the music.
The Continuity system:
This is a wide shot. However in planning we were going to do this shot as a Mid High to low angle shot to add suspense, but it didn't work out as we planned.
This is a Medium shot. It was used to add tension and get a close up of the important action.

The Continuity system:
- 180 degree rule: In our sequence we broke the 180 degree rule. However we chose to do this as we felt that it was necessary and we thought the sequence would not be as good. So we decided to follow the 360 degree rule instead to get the full perspective of the film. But if we were to film it again and we had no option but to film with the 180 degree rule. We would spend more time and concentrate on a good film that doesn't break the 180 degree rule.
- Establishing shots: We used several establishing shots in our sequence as we wanted to build up suspense for the end of the film when I die.
- Match cuts on action: Our sequence didn't contain and Match cuts on action as we couldn't find a place for one in our film. However if we were to film our sequence again, we would spend more time and think of ways to add them in.
- Eyeline match cuts: We used quite a few Eyeline match cuts in our sequence. When i heard the scream and then it cut to an eyeline match of the door, where I heard the sound from. Then we used it again when I entered the room and the eyeline match was of what i could see which was Fay (the killer) next to Livvy's (dead) body. We used these Eyeline matches to allow the audience to see what the characters see.
- POV shots: We used a few POV shots to show what the characters see and to put the audience in the characters position and engage them when they watch the film.
- Shot-reverse shot: Before editing we had planed to use a Shot-reverse shot to show Fay looking over my shoulder and then a close up of here eyes. However while editing we couldn't get the stab scene near the end to cut smoothly, so we decided to break up the two different stabbing shots with the close up of Fay's eyes to stop the scenes form jumping. Therefore we had to get rid of the Shot-reverse shot. If we were to film the sequence again we wold spend more time and add in some Shot-reverse shots.
When filming I learned how to properly use the camera settings and the advantages of using a tripod to get non-shaky shots when filming. I also learned the techniques and the features of editing. I really enjoyed the project as a whole, I loved the planning, filming and the editing of the sequence. It was very fun and enjoyable.
